Jefferies expands investment banking into Canada
NEW YORK and LONDON-- Jefferies, a global investment banking firm, has announced its plans to expand into Canada. Steven Latimer has joined as a Managing Director and Head of Canadian Investment Banking, and will initially focus on the metals and mining sector. He will be based in Toronto.
"Establishing an investment banking presence in Canada is part of our strategy to expand our presence in the mining sector globally, as Canada accounts for approximately 25% of all mining investment banking worldwide,” commented Benjamin Lorello, Global Head of Investment Banking and Capital Markets at Jefferies. “In addition, by having a local presence, we will be able to serve Canadian clients across all our focus sectors, providing them with M&A and worldwide capability in equity and debt capital markets through our sales and trading presence across U.S., Europe and Asia.”

Mr. Latimer has more than 22 years of investment banking experience and joins Jefferies from Credit Suisse, where he was Head of Canadian Metals and Mining Investment Banking and based in Toronto. Previously, he spent 15 years at UBS Securities in Investment Banking based in Toronto and Calgary. Mr. Latimer graduated from the Honours Business Administration program at The University of Western Ontario and received his MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.
